Dezziv Brake&Go Anti-Rollback Wheelchair Brake (pair) - Classic First

We have teamed up with our friends at Dezziv in Slovenia to bring you their innovative new wheelchair brake system, Brake&Go.  It is the only solution of its kind in the world that works automatically, hands-free when climbing inclines or steps in a wheelchair. The brakes prevent unwanted rearward movement when moving forward as well as reversing.

  • Anti Roll Back/Forward - When the chair user or the companion stops pushing, the wheels will automatically lock to stop the chair rolling when on an incline.  This option can be switched on or off as needed and can be used with the wheelchair facing forwards or backwards.
  • Hill Stop/Start - With the anti-roll activated, if you stop on an incline and deactivate the anti-roll the Dezziv Brake&Go will automatically hold your chair in position until you wheel uphill. It will then then deactive hill hold and return to 'regular/neutral' function.
  • Stair Climbing - Anti-roll function can be utilised when climbing steps.  With anti-roll function engaged the break will engage on each step automatically.  Safer for both user and companion.
  • 3 Settings Available - Anti-roll forwards, anti-roll backwards and standard wheel lock function
  • Handbike/Electric Add-on - Can be used in conjunction with front wheel add-ons to prevent slipping back when front wheel loses grip.
  • Replaceable Brake Linings* - The brake linings can be replaced when worn out to extend the lifespan of the product. (*Only available on the Top First model)
  • Usage - Not suitable for use in wet, rain or snow.
  • Mounting - Uses standard brake clamps to attach to wheelchair. 19mm x 60mm barrel.
  • Custom Options Available - Wider linings for wider tyres, longer brake handles, custom handle directions.
  • PLEASE NOTE:  The brakes do not help you with moving downhill. The brake only stops when you are climbing upwards.

An internationally renowned innovation

The family business journey started when Nejc suffered a spinal cord injury in 2014 and ended up in a wheelchair. They were looking for a solution to enable him to move independently on stairs and ramps, as the staircase at his home had suddenly become an insurmountable obstacle for him. They built the first prototype based on the idea of an automatic brake with the goal of helping others with the innovation too.

How Do The Brakes Work?

Demonstration

Moving Around The House

Testing

"I use them a lot as normal brakes, on holiday the hill climb lock was very useful and the lock for stairs (front locked) was used a few times only because i need two rails to get up a set of stairs. Overall a very happy customer."

Functionality

Going Up Inclines - Forwards (with companion)

The brakes can help the wheelchair user independently or with their companion to move the wheelchair. The companion can push the wheelchair up the slope and whenever the companion releases the wheelchair it won’t roll backwards when the brake is switched on.

When the companion begins pushing again, the brake automatically allows immediate pushing without any adjustment to the brake levers.

Going Up Inclines - Backwards (with companion)

The brakes can also assist when the wheelchair is pulled backwards up the slope by the companion. The companion pulls the wheelchair backwards and whenever the companion releases the wheelchair, it will stay in place when the brake is turned on.

When the companion begins pulling again, the brake automatically allows immediate pulling without any adjustment to the brake levers.

Going Up Inclines - Forwards (independent)

With the brakes switched on and the user is going up the slope, whenever they stop pushing, the wheelchair won't roll backwards.

When the user starts to push again, the brakes automatically enable immediate propulsion.

Start on Incline - Forwards

The brakes can assist in a similar way to a car. When the brake is switched on and you push forwards up the slope, it will automatically brake the wheelchair when you stop.

If then, the switching lever (4) is moved to the neutral position, the wheelchair will still be braked, but when you begin to push again, it will automatically release and will remain in the neutral, switched off position.

Stair Climbing (companion)

The brakes are a huge help when having to negotiate going up stairs backwards with a wheelchair and a companion. When the companion stops pulling, the brake automatically stops the wheelchair preventing both user and companion being dragged down the stairs.

When you continue moving up the stairs, it automatically enables immediate pulling, without needing to adjust the brakes. This way we can pull the wheelchair up the stairs without any fear that it will 'escape'. The companion can rest whenever.

Stair Climbing (independent)

The brakes allow users with good upper body strength and grip to climb stairs individually without the assistance of a companion.

The user, with a belt fastening them to the wheelchair, and with the help of the hands and a hand-rail, pulls up the stairs, step by step. The switched on brake automatically prevents the wheelchair from rolling forwards after each step.

The brakes can create independence for the user, who can without any help, overcome such obstacles as stairs, empowering the user.
